Planned Parenthood Arizona Announces

Dr. DeShawn Taylor as Medical Director Articles / dBNews Phoenix

   Planned Parenthood Arizona announces Dr. DeShawn Taylor as the new Medical Director. Taylor will provide medical oversight for all gynecological services, medical abortions, and reproductive health care and treatment to clients, as well as training clinicians.

    Prior to Planned Parenthood, Taylor served as the Clinical Instructor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Southern California’s Keck School of Medicine, and later as their Assistant Professor of Clinical Obstetrics and Gynecology. In addition, she has lectured internationally, had book chapters published, and is the current contract physician for Planned Parenthood Los Angeles. She completed her fellowship at LAC+USC Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles and holds a Masters of Science in Clinical and Biomedical Investigations from the University of Southern California.

    Taylor is the recipient of extensive honors and awards. In 2005, she earned four awards, including Best Graduating Resident, from the King/Drew Medical Center Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She has also been the recipient of the National Medical Fellowship Award, the Martin Luther King Jr. Award from the Charles Drew University of Medicine and Science, and was named the Student National Medical Association Regional Director of the Year in 2001. In addition, she was recognized by the Association of Black Women Physicians when she received their Nordstrom Community Service Award in both 1998 and 1999.
