GENERAL APPLICATIONS
(Access on the SESC public computers only)

Microsoft Office XP Pro, SP2 - A suite of productivity programs, including Word, a word processing program; Excel, a spreadsheet program; PowerPoint, a presentation development program, and Access, a database creation program. Note that Outlook, the built-in e-mail program, has been turned off.

Internet Explorer 6.0 - A web browser program for accessing the World Wide Web portion of the Internet.

Adobe Illustrator 10.0.2 – Graphics software that allows for the creation of graphics that can be used in print, on the Web, and in other media.
Adobe Photoshop Element 2.0 – Image editing software for print, e-mail, and the Web. Capture and correct images from digital cameras, scanners, and CDs.

EndNote – Citation management program that allows for capturing and organization of bibliographic citations to be later used in writing of term papers and research papers. Essential in the production and formatting footnotes and bibliographies in a number of styles.

Macromedia Flash MX -- allows designers and developers to integrate video, text, audio, and graphics into rich, multimedia presentations.


CURRICULUM-SUPPORT SOFTWARE

Accuplacer -- Developed by the College Board, Accuplacer Computerized Placement Tests (CPTs) is a nationally normed test customized and delivered by educational institutions to help determine the English, mathematics, and reading placement levels most appropriate for incoming students entering the College of Allied Health.

A.D.A.M Interactive Anatomy – Comprehensive digital database of anatomical images, including 3D images, cadaver photographs, pinned atlas images and Slide Show, a built-in curriculum integration and authoring tool.

A.D.A.M Interactive Physiology – Interactive exploration of physiological processes and concepts, using detailed graphics, animation, sound, video and interactive quizzes.

Biology Labs Online -- Designed to reinforce scientific methodology, these labs are appropriate for introductory biology, genetics, cell biology, and ecology. Included labs and their subject areas are as follows:

Data Chem -- PACPrep 2.0. – Computer-based exam preparation program for physician assistant students to help them pass the professional certification exam. Contains more than 800 questions, answers and explanations on topics covered in the exam.

Digfolio -- Digital Portfolio is a comprehensive, easy-to-use, creation system that includes curriculum and software templates required to create Digital Portfolios. This software includes step-by-step tutorials for students and instructors, pre-made portfolio templates in Microsoft Word®, PowerPoint®, and FrontPage®, assembling resources, assessment/ evaluation plans, and much more.

WEB BASED APPLICATION

HOBET -- The Health Occupations Basic Entrance Test (HOBET) is given to students applying to enter the Allied Health Science programs. This test is given on the computer.The exam consists of six sub-test areas: Essential Math Skills, Social Decisions, Stressful Situations, Learning Styles, Reading Comprehension, and Test Taking Skills.

Language of Medicine -- Programmed textbook for allied health students. Features chapters on cancer medicine, radiology, pharmacology, and psychiatry. Includes how to analyze medical words and body orientation, practice exercises, review sheets, and pronunciation guides.

(The following programs are available on the Internet both on- and off-campus. A user ID and a password may be required.)

DxR Clinician -- Geared towards Medical, Physician Assistant and Nurse Practitioner programs, this problem-based learning software enhances clinical diagnosis and patient management skills. Features over 90 patient simulations (cases) for students to interview, examine, and diagnose.

Eureka -- Allows students to take assessment tests to help find appropriate careers that may be right for them, to learn about programs of study offered by colleges and universities available for their chosen career, and to research scholarships and grants for which they may be eligible.

Integrated Medical Curriculum – Reviews major courses taught during the first two years of medical school. Basic human life sciences as well basic clinical skills are presented with in-depth text coverage, animations, streaming audio and video, photos and illustrations, interactive quizzes, and quality content. Instructors can incorporate these units into their own curriculum.

Rosetta Stone Language – Online English language program that develops key language skills and advances at the student's own pace. Under the guidance of an instructor, students’ language skills can be assessed, and they are assigned self-paced modules for skill enhancement.

Plato – A number of self-paced learning modules offering hours of instruction in reading and writing, math, science, life skills, and work skills, geared to adult learners. Used under the direction of instructor, the software can assess student skills and prescribe quality, self-paced, interactive instruction that allows learners to acquire the competencies they need.
