Charles
R. Drew University’s College of Medicine and College
of Allied Health have incorporated computer-assisted learning into
many of their courses. Faculty are continuously trained on using
various computer tools and are counseled on how to make the online
experience enticing and well organized. Students enjoy interacting
with faculty and course materials via this medium for many reasons
(one being convenience).
WebCT
or Blackboard
Many students and faculty in the College of Medicine Residency and
Summer Programs and the College of Allied Health use WebCT, a content
management tool, to share supplemental course information, conduct
Online Quizzes, host Discussion Boards, and transmit assignment
files. This password-protected area organizes content and delivers
it via the Internet. This provides for quick asynchronous communication
that can be accessed by all class participants. The University
has been using WebCT since Summer 2003.
ANGEL
ANGEL is the new online course management tool that Charles R. Drew
University’s 3rd and 4th Year Medical Students are using
to enrich the educational experience. This system allows students
and Faculty to converse about clerkships via online communication
in a password-protected area. The tool has numerous functions including
a Course Calendar, Online Quizzes and Surveys, Dynamic Announcements,
and Discussion Boards.
