Research Assistant (Part-time, 10-12 hours/week)

Description:
Under the general direction of Principal Investigator, the Research Assistant provides technical support in molecular endocrinology, diabetes and obesity research laboratory.  Responsibilities include assist with project planning, data collection, experimental protocols and procedures; bench work involving lab techniques focused in molecular biology, and small animal studies: Perform animal, cell biology, cell culture, and molecular biology experiments in support of the study; cell culture; immunochemistry; plasmid recovery; PCR; contacts and screens potential research subjects; assists in patient recruitment; explains study, verifies eligibility, ensure that all applicable forms and other required paperwork are completed; manages data collection: obtains, verifies, organizes, codes, enters, completes forms, maintain files’ monitors patient’s status throughout the study.  Reviews and evaluates health status, lab findings, reactions, etc; prepares comprehensive written reports summarizing data collection; establishes and maintains files; administer questionnaires to study subjects. Requirements:
Regionally accredited four year college degree (B.A., B.S.) in a research discipline required.  Degree in Biological Sciences preferred. One to three years related experience required, preferable in molecular biology. Strong background in biochemistry and/or molecular biology; capability to work independently; knowledge of optics and microscopy is a plus but not essential.  May required working on weekends as needed.
