Description:
The Department of Research is seeking for a Biostatistician in biostatistics to join an active, growing group of clinical translational, health services, and community intervention researchers. This position is specifically intended to augment the goals of our Clinical and Translational Research Institute, and may reflect statistical expertise in any aspect of translational research. Candidate should have a record of, or significant promise for, excellence in research and teaching in biostatistics, as well as peer-reviewed publications. The Biostatistician is expected to participate in NIH or comparable competitive extramural funding at the co-investigator level. Very minimal teaching but extensive mentorship is expected, and will be expected to conduct workshops in biostatistics and research methodologies. Under general direction, prepares analysis plans and writes detailed specifications for analysis files, consistency checks, tables and figures; communicates with research teams and researchers regarding statistical analysis issues. Interprets analyses and writes statistical sections of study reports; creates and maintains statistical databases; liaise with medical and other scientific personnel to provide statistical support for research projects in the areas of study design, data extraction, appropriate statistical analysis and interpretation of results; responsible for statistical aspects of clinical and non-clinical research projects includes study design, case report form development, analysis planning and scheduling, analysis and interpretation of data, reporting of results; and may also be required to coordinate analysis efforts across multiple research projects. The position may also carry a faculty appointment depending on the candidate’s experience and qualifications.
Requirements:
Regionally accredited Master’s degree in statistics or biostatistics required. Doctoral degree preferred. One to three years of experience working in statistics or biostatistics with peer reviewed publications. Prior experience with teaching, grant writing, publishing, conducting workshops in biostatistics preferred. Advanced knowledge of statistics; ability to analyze and interpret statistical data; report preparation skills; ability to operate personal computer and various software programs; a certain degree of creativity and latitude, flexibility is required; ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team setting; evidence of strong management skills, as shown through management of multiple projects and or staff; excellent written and verbal communications skills; good organizational skills with the ability to adapt and adjust to changing priorities; ability to work independently; demonstrated initiative and motivation; ability to undertake statistical analysis, interpretation and presentation of complex data; experience with one or more statistical software packages (SAS, STATA, S-Plus, R or SPSS) for manipulation and analysis of data sets; experience with system development operations in one or more relational database management programs (Access, Paradox); experience with the design and maintenance of relational databases; and able to deal with complicated judgments in a creative and open-minded way and can extract and present key information accurately and imaginatively.
