Q: What is Head Start?
Head Start is a National Program providing comprehensive child development and family centered services. The services are free to low-income families with children age 3 to 5.

Head Start provides children with classroom activities that help them develop mentally, socially, emotionally and physically. The Head Start staff recognizes that as parents, you are the first and most important teacher of your children.

Q: What is the new Mary B. Henry Head Start Training Center?
In addition to providing comprehensive services to the children and families assigned to this site, the following activities will also occur:
  • Training Center for the enhancement of skills for direct-services positions.

  • Training Center for the enhancement of skills for parent and organization volunteers.

Q: What services does HEAD START provides?
  • Pre-School for Part/Full day
  • Free Nutrition program
  • Assistance with Health Services
  • Disability Services for Children
  • Job training & referral for parents
  • Education assistance for parents
  • Mental Health Services, & Social Services

Q: Who is eligible for services?
All families residing in Compton, Lynwood, Paramount, or South Los Angeles with Zip Codes 90059, 90061.

Families must meet federal low-income and State income guidelines for services and have children age 3 to 5 years or medically fragile infants and toddlers.

Q: Are there any enrollment fees?
No. The program is free to families whose income falls within the guidelines of the federal poverty index.

Q: How do I enroll?

Q: What documents will be needed with my applications?
The following items will be needed:
  • Proof of Child's birth date
  • Proof of Family income
  • Foster Care Agreement (if foster child)
  • Medi-Cal or Health care plan (if any)
  • Child's Current Immunization Records (yellow card)
  • Plus all Social Security Numbers for the Child and Adults in the Child's home!
