Drew CARES researchers fight the HIV/AIDS epidemic by studying the behavioral and clinical aspects of HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment. Our research strengthens the work of our scientific collaborators and community partners.

 

Our leadership and commitment to research have substantially advanced the understanding of how to fight the HIV/AIDS epidemic in underserved communities. Research by Drew CARES is respected worldwide and is supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Los Angeles Office of AIDS Programs and Policy (OAPP), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the University of California Universitywide AIDS Research Program (UARP) and other national, state and local funding agencies. Our research findings have been published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), Lancet, Archives of General Psychiatry, the American Journal of Public Health and other prestigious journals.

 

Drew CARES provides an environment for minority researchers to work together with communities of color to make significant strides in reducing health disparities. Drew CARES researchers hold a wide range of graduate degrees spanning biological and medical sciences, behavioral and social sciences, and public health. Researchers’ skills are honed by ongoing professional development activities, including seminars, journal clubs and courses for junior investigators.

 

Drew CARES has fostered groundbreaking collaborations among our researchers and our growing family of partners in the U.S. and abroad, including UCLA, UCSF, Bienestar Human Services, Minority AIDS Project, Agostinho Neto University in Angola and governmental health agencies in Angola, Rwanda and Namibia.
