Drew Center for AIDS Research, Education, and Services

Who We Serve

Drew CARES is committed to helping underserved populations in U.S. communities and throughout the world. We serve the entire spectrum of people affected by HIV/AIDS, from those at risk for HIV infection to those who are living with HIV/AIDS.

We are based at Charles Drew University in south Los Angeles, where the population is 95% African American or Latino, and poverty is very common. Prior to the establishment of HIV/AIDS services here in 1985, many people in south Los Angeles were compelled to seek services at distant providers or to forego care altogether. By delivering a wide range of HIV services, Drew CARES improves access to care among African Americans and Latinos, as well as gay, lesbian and transgender individuals of all races.

Our international programs reflect our commitment to underserved populations. We focus our global efforts in developing nations, where resources to combat HIV/AIDS are limited. Our office in Luanda, the capital of Angola, serves as the base for our projects throughout sub-Saharan Africa.
