Discipline of Nuclear Medicine Technology

 
  • In nuclear medicine, radiopharmaceuticals (medications that contain radiation-emitting atoms) are used to diagnose and treat disease.
  • Nuclear Medicine Technologists administer radiopharmaceuticals to patients and use highly computerized imaging devices to monitor the characteristics and functions of tissues or organs in which they localize.
  • The technology of nuclear medicine enables precise diagnosis. For example, abnormal areas show higher or lower concentrations of radiopharmaceutical distribution than normal.
