Applying for Admission

The Department of Biomedical Sciences accepts applications from freshmen-level students.
Applications from transfer students, or those seeking a second baccalaureate degree will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

You are considered a freshman applicant for admission purposes if:

  • you are still in high school, or
  • you have graduated from high school but have not earned more than 30 credits units from any accredited college or university.

If you plan to attend a college summer session immediately after graduating from high school or have completed college work while in high school, the University still considers you a freshman applicant.

Application filing periods

The Department of Biomedical Sciences accepts applications only once every year. Priority applications for the Fall Semester are accepted between October 1 and December 15 of the previous year. Students can apply after the priority deadline but they will be admitted on a
space-available basis.

Fees, Tuition, and Estimated Student Budget

Charles Drew University of Medicine and Science is committed to helping students finance their education; the Financial Aid Office works closely with all students who need financial assistance. A financial aid award generally consists of a combination of scholarships and grant money from Charles Drew University and other sources, low-interest loans, and a work-study job during the academic year.

We recommend that you take the initiative to research the wide range of scholarship opportunities sponsored by outside organizations. Every year thousands of dollars go unawarded because students are not aware of these resources.

College-bound students who plan to major in science, math, and engineering fields will benefit from the HyperAid database that provides information on academic programs, financial aid, internships, and fellowships available at colleges and universities across the country.

Tuition is calculated at the present rate of $250 per unit. University fees include the $35 non-refundable application fee and a one-time student activities fee of $100.
University fees and tuition are subject to change without notice.

For more information on financing your education, please call (323-563-4824) or visit the Financial Aid Office.

Freshman Selection

The Department of Biomedical Sciences conducts a comprehensive review of all freshman applications for undergraduate admission, involving an academic review and evaluation of personal achievements and life challenges.

The goal of Biomedical Sciences admissions is to attract a high-ability and diverse freshman class. Equity, consistency, and compliance with all mandatory requirements are the
College principles guiding the admissions policy. Further information can be found in the University Catalog.

The Department of Biomedical Sciences strives to identify and select students from across the eligible applicant pool where merits are defined beyond the standard academic measures, which include but are not limited to grades, test scores, or academic subjects completed. Although academic factors are the most important for selection, personal achievements and life challenges are also taken into account during the decision process.

Students that are highly motivated and possess the determination, discipline and commitment to succeed in a rigorous academic program are encouraged to apply.
