Residency Program Director: Don P. Sanders, M.D., MSPH
The goal of the Orthopedic Surgery Education Program (core curriculum) is to in a stepwise fashion produce a well rounded competent, ethical orthopedic surgeon schooled in all areas of orthopedic knowledge who will successfully pass the certifying exam of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and practice orthopedic surgery with excellence and honor in the community in which he or she will live.
Our Orthopedic Surgery Education Plan is divided into five basic parts.
The administration of the teaching and research programs.
The basic science or didactic teaching program.
The clinical teaching program involving rounding and clinic (clinical) instruction
The surgery and operative techniques teaching program.
The research strategies program with its development and implementation.
Specific goals or objectives of each rotation and year of training have been established by the program director and the faculty of each of the institutions through which the residents rotate. Assistance in the establishment of a standard core training system is provided additionally by the education directors of institutions providing the outside rotations for the residency program. The Education Director at the Los Angeles Orthopedic Hospital is Blair Filler, M.D. and the Education Director is John Hsu, M.D. Each of their orthopedic educational programs is an integral part of our Total Education Program.
