Joseph L. McQuirter, D.D.S., Department Chairman and Professor I, Career Academic Series, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Hospital Dentistry. Dr. McQuirter received his BS degree in Chemistry in 1971 from Jackson State University, Jackson, Mississippi and his DDS degree in 1975 from Meharry Medical College, School of Dentistry, Nashville, Tennessee. Dr. McQuirter completed his Oral and Maxillofacial Residency Training here at Drew University in 1978; in addition, he also received a certificate of postgraduate training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery here at the Drew University. |

Dr. McQuirter maintains professional involvement in the community, as evidenced by his membership on the Board of Directors since 1993 for the Emma Bowdry Scholarship Fund and Chairman of the Board of the Katherine Murriel Education Fund, Inc. He also maintains professional membership as a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery; an Alumni of the Student Clinicians of the American Dental Association; and member of the Southern California Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. |

He has made a firm commitment to education and research in the context of service to underserved communities. To this end, he developed and implemented the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Strategic Plan. Through this plan, a focus on basic research and critical surveillance of clinical systems are used to unveil new knowledge and innovative approaches to patient care. He has worked diligently to develop new and improved methods to promote health and prevent disease in the at-risk population served by Drew University. |
