Neurology

   
  Neurology is a medical specialty established to advance and promote the best possible care for patients with neurological disorders by:
 
  • Ensuring appropriate access to neurological care.
  • Supporting and advocating for an environment which ensures ethical, high quality neurological care.
  • Providing excellence in professional education by offering a variety of programs in both the clinical aspects of neurology and the basic neuroscience to physicians and allied health professionals.
  • Supporting clinical and basic research in the neurosciences and related fields.
 

This service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for in-patients, out-patients and emergencies. Frequent treatment/management procedures are related to patients with strokes, seizures, movement disorders, multiple sclerosis, peripheral nerve diseases, infections, hypertensive encephalopathy, seizures, headaches, degenerative nervous system disorders, e.g., Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. The Neurological Ambulatory Care center is located at 4-J at King/Drew Medical Center. Patients with neurological disorders are seen Monday – Friday. Attending neurology physicians and nursing personnel from the Department of Neuroscience also staff the Neurology Clinic located at the Hubert H. Humphrey Comprehensive Health Center (HHHCHC) which is a part of the SPA 6, Southwest Cluster.
