Consultation Service
Division staff supervise the training of 3-4 nephrology fellows, rotating resident and student clerks all year round. There is a Renal Consultation Service which cares for hospitalized patients with acute renal/electrolyte problems, acute and chronic dialysis patients, and performs large numbers of renal biopsies (30-40/year), 300-400 central dialysis catheter placement, continuous dialysis (CVVHDF) and plasmapheresis.
Renal Clinic
This clinic is located in 4M and functions on Wednesday mornings 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The Division sees 25-30 out patients in the clinic each week for various ambulatory renal problems including proteinuria/nephritic syndrome, tubulointerstitial nephritis, stone disease, obstructive uropathy, polycystic and congenital renal disease. Over 100 pre-End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) patients are monitored at a given time and receive specialized anemia, bone and nutritional therapy.
Hypertension Clinic
This clinic is located in 4M and functions on Thursday mornings 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Refractory, secondary and other unusually challenging hypertension cases are seen in our Division-run Hypertension Clinic. This referral clinic augments primary care hypertension services in other clinics.
Outpatient Dialysis Service
The Division also supervises the care of our 120 chronic hemodialysis/CAPD outpatients at an offsite dialysis facility. Comprehensive dietary, social work, nursing and medical services are provided to our chronic dialysis patients.
