  Clinical Services
   
  The Division of Infectious Diseases has primary responsibility to provide clinical services to patients at the King-Drew Medical Center both in the inpatient and outpatient settings.

Inpatient Consultations

The Division of Infectious Diseases provides consultation for patients in the various other hospital departments. All patient care service areas, including the emergency room, trauma center, and all intensive care units throughout the hospital, solicit infectious disease consultations. Services are solicited for a diverse variety of infectious diseases related to community-acquired and nosocomial infections. Consultation is also sought for complex and unusual illnesses related to trauma and travel. Infectious Disease faculty responds to all emergencies related to infectious diseases. The nature of such calls is diverse. Examples include input in the management of infectious disease emergencies such as septic shock, meningitis, esoteric infections, laboratory isolation of highly virulent microorganisms, communicable diseases, and bioterrorism-related problems.

Internal Medicine Ward Attending

In addition to providing infectious disease consultation services, the faculty members share responsibilities as ward attending for patients admitted on the Internal Medicine Service.

Oasis Clinic

Outpatient management of HIV-infected patients is provided at the OASIS Clinic. The clinic operates daily and registers about 1,000 patient visits each month. A comprehensive approach to the management of patients includes patient education, psychiatric services, and social services.

Infectious Disease Clinic

Outpatient consultations and follow up of patients with a diverse variety of infections (other than HIV) is provided at the Infectious Disease Clinic located in 4M in the Acute Hospital. The clinic operates every Thursday afternoon.
