GI Fellowship Program
  • The accredited G.I. Fellowship Program was first established in 1976 and since then 44 Fellows graduated, many of them practicing in Southern California. Currently the program is accredited as Charles Drew University Program, length of training: 3 years and maximum number of trainees: 6.
  • The primary goal of this program is to provide an academically enriched training environment which promotes excellence in patient care, education and research, and to give each Fellow the opportunity to meet his educational needs and pursue his/her career goals. The Gastroenterology Core Curriculum established by AGA (National Society) is utilized as the base and guide covering all the fifteen (15) aspects of Clinical Gastroenterology training.
  • The LAC-King/Drew Medical Center serves as the primary institution for training.
  • Rancho Los Amigos Hospital - Liver Unit, Downey, CA. The obligatory rotation of all the Fellows for 4 months through the USC Liver Unit provides the trainees with a wide range of experience in Hepatology and Liver Research.
  • Harbor/UCLA Medical Center, Torrance, CA - Senior Fellows rotate 2 months through the UCLA program, concentrated mostly on Functional G.I. Disorders, and G.I. Motility studies.
  • Each Fellow performs under supervision over 1,100 endoscopic procedures before graduation far beyond the threshold required by the ABIM Subspecialty Board.
