Shobita Rajagopalan, M.D.

  Shobita Rajagopalan, M.D., Professor, Department of Internal Medicine at Charles Drew University of Medicine and Science; and UCLA School of Medicine.
   
 

Dr. Rajagopalan received her M.D. degree in 1983 from Bangalore Medical College, India. She completed her Internal Medicine Residency Training at Kings County Hospital Center/Downstate Medical Center and VA Medical Center, Brooklyn, New York in 1988 and completed a Fellowship in Infectious Diseases from the same institution in 1990. She became Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, and Infectious Disease as well received an additional certification from the American Society for Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. She holds professional memberships in the American College of Physicians (Fellow); American Society of Microbiology; Infectious Diseases Society of America; Infectious Diseases Association of California; and American Society for Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. Dr. Rajagopalan is one of the first groups of scholars in the Masters of Science in Clinical Research Program at Drew (2004-6).

   
 

Dr. Rajagopalan presently directs the medical student clerkships for Internal Medicine and fourth year medical student elective for Infectious Disease. She is the Associate Dean for Curriculum and Chairs the Educational Policy and Curriculum Committee for Undergraduate Medical Education at Drew. Dr. Rajagopalan has been actively involved in various student interest groups for International Health and Geriatrics on campus. She has designed and implemented various innovative programs for medical education. In 2005, she developed and launched the College of Medicine component of the on-line University Common Curriculum (including the Graduate Medical Education core component) for Charles Drew University.

   
 

Dr. Rajagopalan has been affiliated with the Department of Internal Medicine since 1994 and is currently an active and productive member of the Internal Medicine faculty in the Division of Infectious Diseases. Her interest in public health and hospital epidemiology has lead to her recent appointment as Chairperson of the Infection Control Committee of King-Drew Medical Center in 2005.
