The Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism and Molecular Medicine was established in 1995 by Shalender Bhasin, M.D. It replaced the Division of Endocrinology under the direction of Charles Fisher, M.D. and has grown to be one of the largest and most vibrant divisions at Charles Drew University. There are currently 45 members and 17 faculty members in the Division. High quality basic science (molecular and physiological) and clinical research is performed in the division. Research interests include actions of androgens, conditions of androgen deficiencies, infertility, the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, quality of diabetes care, insulin resistance, obesity, muscle proteins and metabolism. The Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism and Molecular Medicine has a strong teaching component. Its ACGME-accredited fellowship program, under the directorship of
Stanley Hsia, M.D. is one of the most competitive Endocrinology Fellowship programs in the country. We also provide rotations in Endocrinology for medical students and residents. |

Excellent patient care is provided to Los Angeles County residents with Endocrinology-related health problems. Patients are seen in Diabetes (Tuesday morning), Pediatric Endocrinology (Wednesday afternoons), Endocrinology (Thursday afternoons) and Thyroid Biopsy (Friday mornings) clinics. Endocrinology fellows also treat patients in high risk Obstetrics (Monday morning) and Reproductive Endocrinology (Friday mornings) clinics. Information on clinical care is available here.
