  Background
The Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism and Molecular Medicine was established in 1995 by Shalender Bhasin, M.D. It replaced the Division of Endocrinology under the direction of Charles Fisher, M.D. and has grown to be one of the largest and most vibrant divisions at Charles Drew University. Ted Friedman, M.D., PhD., was appointed Division Chief in July 2005 when Dr. Bhasin relocated to Boston University Medical Center. There are currently 45 members and 17 faculty members in the Division. High quality basic science (molecular and physiological) and clinical research is performed in the division. Research interests include actions of androgens, conditions of androgen deficiencies, infertility, the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, quality of diabetes care, insulin resistance, exercise, obesity, muscle proteins, inflammation, substance abuse, hormones and metabolism. Specific research interests of the faculty are listed under Faculty Research Interests.
