  Inpatient Care:
 

There are 550 patients per month 20% of hospital admissions

 
  1. Regular floor units
  2. Telemetry unit (Cardiac Care)
  3. Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU)
  4. Coronary care Unit (CCU)
  5. Hemodialysis (HD) unit equipped for 4 patients at a time; this unit provides portable HD for patients
  6. Geriatric Multidisciplinary Service
  7. Discharge planning meeting: this is a multidisciplinary meeting to discuss every aspect of patient social, financial, placement and home care issues. The discharge planning process starts at admission and occurs weekly. Includes the Executive Chief Resident, ward team leader (s), discharge planning nurse (s), dietician (s), physical therapist (s), social worker (s) and Utilization Management nurse manager (s)
   
  General Internal Medicine Consult (GIMC) Service
 
  1. Consultation Services
  2. One faculty (GIM) each month
  3. Consults for all other departments in the hospital with internal medicine problems
   
  Subspecialty Services
 
  1. 10 subspecialty divisions provide expert consultations for all other Departments in
    the hospital
  2. Specific information regarding these services are available from divisional pages
   
  Ambulatory Services
  1. Internal Medicine Continuity Clinic at Martin Luther King Hospital
 
  • Twice a week Mondays and Wednesdays 1-5 PM
  • 120-130 patients per month
  • Two supervising faculty at any given time
  • Recently discharged patients from the hospital: 60%
  • Pre-op Evaluation: 40%
  2. Hubert Humphrey Comprehensive Health Center Clinic
 
  • Monday through Friday 8:00AM-5:00PM
  • Two full time attending IM faculty
  • 1000 patients / month
  • Complete physicals
 
 
  • Health maintenance including Pap Smears
  • Immunizations
  • Counseling
