Albert Kapstrom, M.D.
Dr. Kapstrom is the Residency Program Director for Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is an Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Clinical series, at Charles Drew University. Dr. Kapstrom received his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Since he joined King-Drew Medical Center, Dr. Kapstrom has actively participated in the Obstetrics and Gynecology department as a supervising attending physician to resident trainees and medical students. |

Dotun Ogunyemi, M.D. Dr. Ogunyemi was the former Chief of the Division of Obstetrics, the Director of the Perinatal Diagnostic Center, and the Director of the OB/GYN Clerkship. He performed his medical studies at the Faculty of Medicine, Universityof Ibadan in Nigeria. He continued his studies at the Nigerian National Postgraduate College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and is a proud graduate of the King Drew Medical Center Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program. Dr. Ogunyemi is an Associate Professor of OB/GYN at Charles Drew University of Medicine and Science. He has recently relocated to Harbor UCLA Medical center and assumes some part time responsibilities within the Department.

Sebhat Afework, M.D.
Dr. Afework is Chief of Gynecology, Associate Director of our Residency Program as well as Associate Director of Endoscopic Surgery. Dr. Suh is the Director of Reproductive Endocrinology. He is Board certified in both Obstetrics, Gynecology and Gynecological Endocrinology. He attended Medical School at Pusan National University and completed his residency at Mount Sinai Hospital in Hartford, Connecticut. Dr. Suh completed a fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology at the University of California, San Diego. He served on faculty at University of Colorado and Harbor-UCLA Medical Center before joining the Obstetrics and Gynecology team at King/Drew Medical Center. Dr. Suh performs academic duties at the Associate Professor level. |

Wilbur Troutman, M.D.
Dr. Troutman is Director of Endoscopic Surgery and Assistant Clerkship Director. He received his medical training at the Medical College of Georgia and completed his residency at King/Drew Medical Center. Dr. Troutman concluded a Fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery, including Pelvic Floor Reconstruction and Urogynecology at the Chattanooga Women’s Laser Center in Tennessee. He performs his academic duties for Drew University at the Assistant Professor level.

Dr. Dantas is the Director of Normal Obstetrics. Her specialties are Obstetrics and Gynecology, as well as Urogynecology. He completed an Internship and Residency at the Brigham and Women's Hospital/Massachusetts General Hospital of Harvard Medical School. His fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology was obtained at the University of Miami. Dr. Mirhashemi is a past Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Miami.

He carries an appointment of Clinical Associate Professor at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. Dr. Atamdede did his undergraduate training at Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI. He went to medical school at the Medical College of Wisconsin and did his internship and residency in Obstetrics & Gynecology at St. Mary’s Hospital/Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, WI. After his residency he did a fellowship in Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, OH.

Dr. Betson is a part-time GYN Urogynecologist in the Division of Gynecology, and Chief of Gynecology and Assistant Residency director at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. He did his undergraduate training at University of Southern California and attended Medical school at Des Miones University of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his Ob/Gyn residency at University of Nevada School of Medicine in Las Vegas. Dr. Betson served on the faculty as Assistant Professor for Ob/Gyn in Las Vegas after his residency and completed a Fellowship at Harbor-UCLA in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery. |

Ezra C. Davidson, Jr., M.D.
Dr. Davidson is the retired Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Charles Drew University, and retired Vice Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the UCLA School of Health Sciences. Since his retirement in July 1996, his efforts have been devoted to clinical and didactic teaching of obstetrics in the King-Drew Medical Center and the development of an administrative structure for Primary Care at Drew as the first Associate Dean for Primary Care. Dr. Davidson has performed academic duties at the Professorship level. |

Edward W. Savage, M.D.
Dr. Savage is a GYN Oncologist in the Division of Gynecology/Oncology. He was formerly Medical Director of King/Drew Medical Center and Dean at Charles Drew University. He remains as Adjunct Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Savage received his medical degree from Meharry Medical College, his internship at St. Joseph's Hospital, Syracuse, N.Y., and residency at Kings County Hospital, State University of New York, Brooklyn, N.Y.

Edward H. Hon, M.D.
Dr. Hon is a Research Scientist and Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He graduated from medical school at Loma Linda University, first in his class, in 1950. After a pathology residency at Loma Linda, he went to Yale for residency training in obstetrics and gynecology. He remained on the faculty at Yale, receiving the Markle Scholarship for the years 1955 to 1969. In 1969 he moved to the University of Southern California, where he was the Dore Professor and Chief of Perinatal Research in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Wilburn P. Durousseau, M.D.
Dr. Durousseau is former Vice-Chairman in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He received his medical training at Howard University and completed a Reproductive Endocrinology and Fellowship at L.A. County- U.S.C Medical Center. Dr. Durousseau concluded a general rotating internship at L.A. County Harbor General Hospital. His residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology was accomplished at White Memorial Hos-pital/Loma Linda University. Since 1993, Dr. Durousseau has performed academic duties at the Associate Professor level. |

Reza Mohajer, M.D.
Dr. Mohajer is the Medical Director of the Abnormal Cytology Clinic whose specialty is Obstetrics and Gynecology. He attended Medical School at the University of Tehran in Iran and completed his residency training at Highland Park General Hospital. Dr. Mohajer’s unique qualities include his outstanding skills in the use of the colposcopy, which is used to detect cervical cancer. He performs academic duties at the Assistant Professor level.

Bruce Ettinger, M.D.
Dr. Ettinger is an associate professor of OB/GYN, and coordinator of the Women’s Health program. His departmental role is to promote and advance the division of women's health through educational and clinical program development. He specializes in Women’s Health Policy, Psychosocial Issues in Women’s Health, and Ambulatory Care in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Ettinger received his medical degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and completed residency at the University of Texas at San Antonio. His master’s degree in public health/health services is from UCLA.

Alfred E. Forrest, M.D., J.D.
Dr. Forrest was the former Associate Medical Director at the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services, Martin Luther King/Charles Drew Medical Center. Previous to this position he was the Director of Performance Improvement for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the King/Drew Medical Center and a Medical/Legal Consultant for Risk Management, Performance Improvement, and Regulatory Issues. Dr. Forrest is an Assistant Professor III of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Charles Drew University of Medicine and Science and an Adjunct Associate Professor at the UCLA School of Medicine.

Carol Guzé, Ph.D.
Dr. Guzé is a PH.D. Medical Geneticist (ABMG) and the Associated Director of the Genetics Unit since 1995. The Genetics Unit does prenatal counseling and consults on the pediatric cases with the NICU, PICU and with adults referred from other hospital clinics for genetic disorders. Dr. Guzé received her Ph.D. in Cell Biology at the University of California Berkeley and has been professor of biology at CSU Dominguez Hills for 35 years. For 8 of those years she was the Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs and Dean of Graduate Studies. Dr. Guzé has also been a fellow in microbiology at UCLA and the UCLA Intercampus Medical Genetics Program. |

Gwendolyn V. Spears, CNM, MS, FACNM
Ms. Spears is the Chief of Nurse-Midwifery Services and Director of the Division of Family Life Education in the department. As Division Chief, she directs the midwifery management of low-risk pregnant and postpartum patients, as well as well women gynecology, interconceptional care and sexual assault of women. Ms. Spears was the founding director of the Drew Nurse-Midwifery Education Program and currently facilitates clinical rotation of midwifery and nurse-practitioner students. She is a consultant for women’s health care for the Department of Family Practice and is the coordinator of Intentional and Unintentional injuries for the department. |
