The Dean of Academic Affairs is the University’s Chief Academic Officer with responsibility for all academic matters at the university level. This includes academic planning and programming, program assessment and evaluation, regional accreditation and support for specialized accreditation, new program development, student administration, and academic administration including learning resources, institutional research, library and information technology. The Dean works closely with the Deans of the colleges to ensure quality in academic programs, and facilitate new program development. The Dean also oversees Academic Continuum (pipeline and pre-college) programs. The Dean is responsible for managing the strategic planning process for the President of the University. The President also looks to the Dean for leadership for initiatives in support of the strategic plan, for development of relationships with the UC system and other health science partners, and for working emerging issues and areas of interest. The Dean provides leadership for campus-wide initiatives such as integration and transformation of information systems, and development of new systems and processes in support of the academic mission. The Dean also works with the colleges, research office, and advancement/development office to obtain resources (including partnerships, programs, collaborations, grants) that assist faculty, students and the community.
