Dr. Gus Gill, a Board Certified Otolaryngologist – Head and Neck Surgeon, served the Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science in a number of capacities for over 39 years. Most recently he served as Special Advisor to the President. He passed away April 7th, 2015 at home. He was honored at the 2014 Legacy Leaders Spring Gala and this year’s 2015 Spring Gala was dedicated to his memory.
Dr. Gill graduated from the University of Michigan (UM) Medical School and then completed his postgraduate training at the UM Medical Center. After a short stint on the Faculty at the University of Michigan, Dr. Gill moved to Los Angeles in 1976. He was the Chairman of the Department of Otolaryngology, Charles R. Drew University from 1978 until November of 2006.
Dr. Gill was an Associate Professor, Department of Otolaryngology at Charles R. Drew University. He was a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Academy of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology.
Dr. Gill was President of the Faculty Council at Charles R. Drew University and former President of the University’s Academic Senate and Director of the International Health Institute. His extracurricular affairs included 20 years as a member of the Los Angeles National Conference of Christians and Jews where he served as board chair for two years. He was an active participant with the Interfaith Council in Los Angeles; also he served with various peace and justice oriented organizations
