This is my first newsletter to the leadership, health professionals, researchers, staff, and trainees of Drew University, as well as members of our communitybased programs. I will try to be brief but informative of what is happening at Drew as well as some of the important plans and actions to be taken or considered in the future.
Trust, integrity, open communication, participation by everyone, hard work, and accountability are the keys to success.

- I want to emphasize the importance of every person to be accountable for their employment responsibilities and actions. Accountability is a top priority for me.
- Remember that all of us are here to primarily serve the faculty and trainees. Without
them, there is NO university. I expect everyone to provide timely and quality service to faculty and trainees with professionalism and courtesy.
|
My immediate priorities are:
--Achieve full accreditation of the residency programs by the ACGME (Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education).
--Fill key leadership positions in the University including Dean, College of Medicine; Vice President for Development, External Affairs and Administration; and clinical department Chairs. There will be a reorganization of the administrative structure of the University.
--Meet all requirements of the Medical School Operating Agreement, including accountability of faculty physicians, proper resident supervision, restructuring of the residency programs, and submission of accurate and timely reports.
--Complete the project on building a new research building, and support research, which is our major source of regular and new funding. |
|
|
| |
My long-term goals are:
--Establish a 4-year medical school
--Establish a school of nursing
--Expand programs for receiving master's and doctoral degrees
--Develop a capital building project for a Student/Faculty Center |

- Leadership and faculty accountability will be implemented by requiring
one-year contracts for all deans,
chairs and faculty (your Provost is on
a one-year contract to set the example). The contract is renewable each year based on overall performance.
This will require timely submission
of performance evaluations on all faculty. An appeal process will also
be present..
- An Advisory Council to the Provost comprised of faculty organizations, trainees, community programs and community members will meet
monthly to advise and inform the Provost-Chief Operating Officer/Acting President. The Council will meet monthly .
Drew will be making a report to the County Board of Supervisors on
August 9,2005 on the progress of meeting certain requirements in the Medical School Operating Agreement. Your presence at the Board meeting is appreciated.
