| Happy New Year 2006! |
| |
This year will be especially significant for
Drew because it will be the University’s 40th anniversary since its inception back in 1966.
Do you remember what you were doing in 1966? Some of you may not have been born yet! I was just starting my internship at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. |

The Office of Development, External Affairs and Administration will be taking the leadership role in planning many events as well as fund-raising activities to commemorate this milestone. All of us have an opportunity to be active participants and contributors to these events for the welfare and benefit of the University. Ultimately the resources derived from these activities will help Drew become stronger and better in meeting its mission as an academic institution, as well as better serve this community by training and educating its members to become health professionals. These health professional graduates can then go back to this community
to improve the health and well being of its constituents. |

Our first event will be the 6th Annual Saturday Science Academy II Junior White Coat Ceremony and Reception scheduled for Saturday, January 14, 2006 at 11:00 am to
1:00 pm at the King/Drew Magnet High School of Medicine and Science gymnasium. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa is our scheduled keynote speaker. |

In February, we will initiate the Employee
Giving Campaign marked by the $1,000 from 1,000 donors campaign. The special feature
of this event will be the raffling of a Chrysler automobile. This will be followed by a
Phone-A-Thon Campaign to all of our stakeholders including current and past
donors and former alumni. We are tentatively scheduling a Life Enrichment Fundraising dinner to host and honor special friends of Drew during the past 40 years. We are planning other events that will involve Drew staff, faculty, community advocates, trainees and students.
If you have an especially novel
or potentially successful fund-raising idea, please forward this to Mr. Randall Foster as soon as possible. |

To begin this notable year for Drew, Mrs. Yoshikawa and I have contributed $50,000 toward the Employee Giving Campaign. We hope each and every Drew employee will contribute whatever they feel appropriate for them as well as encourage family, friends and corporate contacts to do the same. Drew has faced many challenges this past year, and we have overcome many of these with great success. We will continue do be successful with your unwavering support, hard work and commitment. Let’s all join forces and make 2006 one heck of a 40th anniversary for Drew! |
