Charles Drew University Hosts County Supervisorial Candidates, 2nd District, for Presentations to Students, Faculty and Staff

Los Angeles, CA — Providing an opportunity to learn more about candidates for the Los Angeles County Supervisor post in the 2nd district, Charles Drew University of Medicine and Science (CDU) recently hosted the two leading contenders, Bernard Parks and Mark Ridley-Thomas, in separate presentations on campus for University students, faculty and staff.

“Since our University plays such a pivotal role in health care, education and economic development in South Los Angeles, we feel it is vital for our community to hear how candidates view these critical issues,” stated Dr. Susan Kelly, President and CEO of the CDU.

“High on the list of priorities for our discussion, of course, were the candidates’ views on the future of clinics in South Los Angeles and that of Martin Luther King Jr. Hospital. Our University’s mission is to educate and train health care professionals particularly for medically underserved areas, but this community is losing too many qualified practitioners to other regions because of the training and employment void in our own neighborhood. We want to make certain that the candidates recognize our perspective for everyone’s benefit,” she added.
