UNIVERSITY AND ITS RADIOGRAPHY PROGRAM AWARDED 8-YEAR ACCREDITATION FROM THE JOINT REVIEW COMMITTEE ON EDUCATION IN RADIOLOGIC TECHNOLOGY (JRCERT*)

Los Angeles, CA—An accreditation evaluation of the Charles Drew University Radiography Program was considered at the October 19, 2007 meeting with the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).  The program was awarded an “Accreditation for a Period of Eight Years,” the maximum duration that may be awarded by the JRCERT.

“This is great news,” said Dr. Gail Orum-Alexander, Pharm D., Dean of College of Science and Health (COSH). “The awarding of eight years of accreditation is confirmation that the radiography program director and faculty provide our students with a high quality education.”

The JRCERT is the only agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education for the accreditation of educational programs in radiography, radiation therapy, magnetic resonance, and medical dosimetry. Specialized accreditation awarded by the JRCERT offers institutions significant value
by providing peer evaluation and by assuring the public of quality professional education in the radiologic sciences.

“This eight year accreditation is the highest award given by the JRCERT,” said Eugene Hasson, University Program Director, Radiography.  “It means that our program, as a whole, meets the
highest standards set forth by the only accreditation agency recognized by the Department of Education to accredit educational programs in radiography and radiation therapy, magnetic resonance, and medical dosimetry. It is a recognition of excellence. Our program at Charles Drew University offers a level of quality education to which other similar programs can only aspire.”

“The accreditation process is rigorous. It assures the public that the education is complete and in compliance with regulatory standards.”

What this means to the University:
Educators:  Through the process of programmatic accreditation, educators are assured that their educational programs are keeping pace with the profession and with standards developed through national consensus.

Profession: The profession is assured, through programmatic accreditation, that educational programs in the field are providing consistent minimum education in the profession as the profession itself has defined it.
