Charles R. Drew University Physician Assistant Program Wins CAPA/Kaiser Regional Challenge Bowl

November 13, 2006 — Do you know what the condition “Dacrocystitis” means? That answer (inflammation of the tear gland) and
several other medical conditions came in handy for students representing the Charles Drew University Physician Assistant Program, who recently won the California Academy of Physician Assistant (CAPA) Student Medical Challenge Bowl. |

| Held during the 30th Anniversary CAPA Conference in Palm Springs, California, the Challenge Bowl consisted of seven |
|
|
|
| |
universities including USC and Stanford with a total of five students representing each PA program per team. The competition was a two-round jeopardy-style contest consisting of 15 questions each. Students were quizzed on a full range of topics revolving around the field of medicine including diagnosis and treatment of various medical conditions. The winning team received $1500 for their student organization and has the privilege of displaying the Challenge Bowl Trophy at their program location for the year. |

“I think this is really great for Drew,” said Nicholas Cascone, Drew team captain. “This competition showed that students that attend Drew are as capable and knowledgeable as any student at any of the more well known universities.” |

The Drew team line-up consisted of: Nicholas Cascone, Jorge Espinoza, Ray Quinonez, Tracy Nwajuaku, Mobashshera Jabeen. Each member earned a $75 cash prize along with an online subscription to MEDEX to assist them in preparing for their board exit exams. |
