Carole Jordan-Harris, M.D., M.S., has served as a Board Trustee since 1993 and had distinction of being the first woman to lead the Board. As a successful physician in Los Angeles and an unsung humanitarian, Dr. Jordan-Harris holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science from Howard University. She earned her Medical degree from the University of California at Irvine where she was both Class President for two of the four years and the devoted single parent of three young daughters. Upon completing her Residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the King/Drew Medical Center she joined a group practice and later became a consultant for Manchester Medical Group and Watts Health Foundation. Dr. Jordan-Harris has been in solo practice since 1987. She continues her OB/GYN practice and committee service at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center with her office in the Cedars-Sinai Medical Towers.
Since 1993 Dr. Jordan-Harris has extended her humanitarian efforts to Africa where she lends her time, talent and energy to lead annual medical missions and health education in both rural areas and major hospitals in West and South Africa. Her work brought her the honor of a chieftaincy title from the Igbo people of Imo State in Nigeria. This title of Chief had never before been awarded to an American woman.
Displaying a tireless commitment to the community, Dr. Jordan-Harris has actively facilitated Drew medical student experiences in the international health arena as well as maintained active memberships in several organizations both locally and on the national level. She chairs the African American Advisory Council of the Los Angeles March of Dimes and is the active participant on numerous Boards including Sojourn Services for Battered Women and the Association of Black Women Physicians. Her organizational involvements include: Charles Drew Medical Society, Los Angeles Obstetrics and Gynecological Society, the Association of Black Women Physicians, Golden State Medical Association, National Medical Association, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and the Howard Alumni Association of Greater Los Angeles.
For her efforts to educate and provide health care for the global community, Dr. Jordan-Harris' awards and honors include: The African Humanitarian Award from the African Times and South African Consulate-General, and honoree for Women in Business Los Angeles, Howard University Alumni Association of Greater Los Angeles, and Sojourn Services for Battered Women. She received The Distinguished Physician Award from the Minority Health Institute, Certificates of Special Congressional Recognition for her community service, Humanitarian Award from the City of Lynwood, Mentor Network Award from Pepperdine University, The Unsung Hero Award from the Heroes and Legends Organization of the Hollywood Entertainment Industry, the Award of Merit from the Drew Medical Society, and the International Friendship Awards from Alabama A&M University and Governor of Alabama. |
