Cedars Sinai President/CEO Elected to Charles R. Drew University Board of Trustees

Los Angeles, California, June 27, 2005—Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science announced today the election of Thomas M. Priselac, MPH, to its Board of Trustees.  “As a healthcare professional, I value Drew’s commitment to quality patient care and to increasing the pool of high caliber minority healthcare professionals,” said Priselac. “I look forward to working with the board, the faculty and the rest of the Drew community to further its mission of service to the underserved.”

Mr. Priselac has been the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Cedars-Sinai Health System since January 1994, where he has assisted in guiding Cedars-Sinai Health System in becoming one if the nation's leading providers of health services, graduate and continuing medical education services and medical research. Prior to joining Cedars-Sinai, Mr. Priselac was on the executive staff of Montefiore Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Mr. Priselac holds Bachelors in Biology from Washington and Jefferson College in Pennsylvania and a Masters in Public Health from the University of Pittsburgh.

Mr. Priselac is the Chair-Elect of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Executive Council and past chair of the AAMC’s Council of Teaching Hospitals. A past Chair of both the California Healthcare Association and the Hospital Association of Southern California, Mr. Priselac has also served on the Board of Directors of the American Hospital Association, the California Healthcare Foundation, Blue Cross of California and VHA Inc. He lectures extensively at professional meetings and universities on varied aspects of healthcare delivery and leadership and serves as an adjunct faculty member of the University of California, Los Angeles School of Public Health.

Founded in 1966 in response to the lack of adequate medical facilities in the area, Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science is the only historically Black institution for graduate education in the health profession west of the Mississippi. A private not-for-profit university, its mission is to conduct education and research in the context of community service in order to train physicians and allied health professionals to provide care with excellence and compassion, especially to underserved populations.
