ADN to MSN Program Admission Requirements

  1. Two official transcripts are required from all post-secondary educational institutions. The completion of an associate degree in nursing and baccalaureate degree (bachelor’s degree) in a general discipline other than nursing.
  2. Licensure as a registered nurse in California (and home state of residence). Student must have CA RN license before state of clinical rotation.
  3. Proficiency in English is mandatory. All applicants whose first language is not English must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL, http://www.toefl.org). The minimum overall score is 84; 24 is the minimum score in the speaking section, and 24 is the writing section minimum score.
  4. Recommended GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale based on most recent degree.
  5. Three letters of recommendation are required. Letters should be from faculty members, professional colleagues, or work supervisors who can evaluate your potential for success in a graduate program. Recommendations from family, friends or other students are NOT accepted. Recommendations should address the following areas: a. relationships with work (paid or voluntary) associates, b. work competence, c. communication and interpersonal skills with persons of diverse backgrounds, d. leadership skills or potential, and e. values, ethical standards, responsibility, and initiative. The 3 letters of recommendation should be uploaded to the CDU online application system using PDF format.
  6. Congruence of the applicant’s goal with the goals and resources of the School and University. A written personalgoal statement is required, which is to be PDF-formatted and submitted on-line via the CDU application system. The goal statement is your opportunity to tell the admissions committee what you are planning to do with your career after you finish your master’s degree. Before writing your goal statement, please carefully review information about the FNP specialty on our web site so that you clearly indicate to the admissions committee that you are a fit with the program.
  7. Computer proficiency is required (especially word processing and internet/web skills).

  9. A minimum of one year work experience as a nurse is desired.

Admission Requirements for International Applicants & Applicants who received their degree from another country

Masters Program FNP Specialty Admission Requirements
