LOS ANGELES - Assistant Professor Cynthia Davis represented Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science at the 123rd Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena.

Professor Davis was invited to ride in the parade by the Magic Johnson Foundation, one of two community nonprofits that Wells Fargo hosted during the event.
The Rose Parade draws a huge audience. Hundreds of thousands of people lined the streets in Pasadena and millions more watched on television around the world. “I was very fortunate to be involved, and to join the Magic Johnson Foundation as a guest,” said Professor Davis, who is well-known for establishing the first mobile HIV testing unit in Los Angeles County through Charles R. Drew University nearly 30 years ago. . She added, “I’ve lived in Southern California all my life and never have been to the Rose Parade. When the opportunity presented itself, I was in awe. It was an experience that I’ll cherish throughout my lifetime.” Professor Davis, an assistant professor in the Medical Sciences Institute at Charles R. Drew University, has often been recognized for her tireless AIDS advocacy. Recently, she was honored with a televised tribute by the Lifetime Cable Network. Also, she was named one of the Southern California Freedom’s Sisters, honoring her contribution to social justice.
