CDU HIV/AIDS Mobile Testing Project

The Charles R. Drew University’s HIV Mobile Testing Project is dedicated to providing primary prevention and HIV/AIDS education in Los Angeles County to eliminate health disparities and transform the lives of the underserved. Serving the area since 1991, the CDU HIV Mobile Testing Project has provided over 60,000 individuals with HIV screenings, counseling and/or referral services.

As the first dedicated HIV mobile testing and outreach project funded by the Los Angeles County Division of HIV and STD Programs, the CDU HIV Mobile Testing Project has been a leader in facilitating increased access to HIV testing as well as education on personal risk reduction. The CDU program has served as a model for other mobile HIV testing units in Los Angeles County.

Our dedicated project staff travel to designated sites on a daily basis throughout Los Angeles County offering free HIV rapid testing, whereby clients can obtain their HIV test results in 20 minutes. The Los Angeles County health department estimates that there are an estimated 58,000 people living with HIV in Los Angeles County as of December 31, 2011 and of these, 10,500 are undiagnosed and are unaware of their status(Source: Los Angeles County Five-Year Comprehensive HIV Plan (2013-2017, March 2013).
