Ways to Make a Gift
When you make a gift to Charles R. Drew University, you have many options in how the funds will be used, as well as many options for making your gift.
Unrestricted Funds—Your unrestricted contribution may be utilized towards research equipment, facilities, student support services and recruitment costs, and much more.
DIRECTED FUNDS—You can designate your gift to a specific school or program, student services, infrastructure or a priority area at the university. Your funds will be directed towards a purpose is meaningful to you. See options for directing your funds.

There are numerous ways to give to Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science. The most common are outlined below.

All donations should be accompanied by documentation showing the name and address of the donor, and the use for which the funds are intended.
Checks and Cash: Checks and cash are the easiest way to donate. Checks should be made payable to Charles R. Drew University. Donors in foreign currency receive credit in US dollars at the prevailing rate on the day the gift was provided.
Credit Card: Donors may elect to make a gift via a charge to their credit card. Cards accepted for donations through Charles R. Drew University include Visa, Mastercard, or American Express.
Payroll deduction: CDU Employees may elect to make gifts to the University through payroll deduction. For more information, contact the Office of Strategic Advancement.
Wire transfers: Wire transfers are another way to make a gift. Please contact the Office of Strategic Advancement for wire instructions.
Gifts of Securities: Gifts of securities are accepted by the University. The Office of Strategic Advancement will work with the donor, their broker, and the University broker to facilitate the gift. The donor receives a gift credit of the mean value of the stock on the gift date, which is defined as the day it passes out of the donor’s control.
Gifts of Property: Gifts of property such as equipment or artwork are sometimes accepted as donations by the University. The donor is responsible for getting their own appraisal, and these gifts are generally only accepted if they fulfill a current institutional need. Gifts of real estate, including land, buildings, and other improvements, and oil, mineral and related rights are accepted on a case-by-case basis. Outright gifts of real estate are counted at the fair market value on the date of gift. Gifts of real property to the University must be approved before acceptance. Matching Gifts: These are gifts received from a donor’s employer as a supplement to a donor’s gift. The donor receives full credit for their matching gift for the purposes of recognition and benefits.
Planned Gifts: Planned giving vehicles, such as gift annuities and charitable remainder trusts, allow donors to receive not only a tax deduction but also annual income from their gift. Please contact the Office of Strategic Advancement for more information.
Pledges: Gift pledges are accepted by the University. A written pledge document should be signed by the donor and specify: the donor, donation purposes, and a schedule showing payment dates and amounts. Pledges may be paid over a period of five years or less in annual, semiannual, quarterly or monthly installments, with payments to begin at the donor’s convenience.
